Détails

Piuma by DHG is a roving yarn made from 100% extra-fine merino wool, with a soft, slightly fluffy texture. Its low twist preserves the softness and lightness of the fibres; as you work with it, it becomes fuller and more voluminous, creating warm, enveloping pieces.

With approximately 120 metres per 100 g, it can be worked with needles or a crochet hook from 5.5 mm. It is also suitable for hand weaving, punch needle and tufting.

Available individually or in a set of 10 skeins of the same colour. Each item corresponds to one 100 g skein.

Each piece corresponds to one 100 g skein. The pack of 10 contains 10 skeins of the same color, totaling 1 kg. Natural weight tolerance: ±3%.

Loosely spun, soft, and slightly fluffy yarn that gains volume as you work. Yarn weights indicated by DHG: Chunky, Craft, and Rug.

Needles, crochet hook & gauge

Needles and crochet hook: from 5.5 mm, depending on the desired finish. Knitting gauge: 14 stitches and 19 rows in stockinette stitch for 10 × 10 cm. Crochet gauge: 14 stitches and 16 rows in single crochet for 10 × 10 cm.

Knitting: suitable for stockinette stitch, textured patterns, and openwork stitches. Distribute the textured areas evenly to avoid weighing down the piece or creating asymmetries.

Crochet: single crochet produces a compact result; other stitches can also be used. Other techniques indicated by DHG: hand weaving, punch needle, and tufting.

Origin & Manufacturing

According to DHG, Piuma is entirely produced in Prato, Italy, from a combed ribbon of extra-fine merino wool measuring approximately 19 microns. The wool comes from selected farms in South America, notably in Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile. The entire process, from raw fiber to finished yarn, takes place in Italy.

DHG states that the merino wool used comes from farms that do not practice mulesing.

Regarding the dyeing carried out in Italy, DHG states that it uses dyes that meet the requirements of the OEKO-TEX standard and operates in compliance with European REACH and CLP regulations. These manufacturer statements do not, in themselves, constitute certification of the finished yarn.

Care instructions

Pure wool yarns with little or no twist may compact slightly during the first few washes. DHG describes this as a natural settling of the fibers rather than felting.

Before starting, knit a small swatch and test hand washing in cold water or, as DHG recommends, dry cleaning. This step is particularly important when working with large needles or very open lace stitches, so that you can adjust the needle size and dimensions.

DHG states that colors generally hold up well to light and washing. Fluorescent shades are more sensitive to light and may bleed with alkaline or harsh soaps or during prolonged washing. Similar care is recommended for dark and bright shades.

Test the colors before pairing them with undyed or light-colored fibers. Dry your projects away from direct sunlight, preferably in the shade.

Different dye lots may create noticeable variations in shade throughout the finished piece. Make sure you have enough yarn for the entire project, plus a little extra. Displayed colors may vary depending on your screen settings.
